California GRAPES continue to have great supplies. Sizing is peaking around LG/XLG for RED and GREEN SEEDLESS, perfect for retail promotion. BLACK seedless and GLOBE grapes are also caught up and ready for promotion.
This summer has been a challenge for LETTUCE and ROMAINE but quality seems to have improved. Better inventory flows are leading to better shelf life. Conditions remain HOT but the last few weeks we have seen improvements in quality on ROMAINE and ICEBERG.
ASPARAGUS supplies remain tight! The situation looks to continue through this month as both Mexican and Peruvian supplies struggle to keep up with demand.
CAULIFLOWER markets jumped up this week. We have seen several consecutive weeks bordering on oversupply due to the increased HEAT this summer. Growers harvested through much of what they had projected for the season, especially in Southern California growing regions. Markets are expected to stay active for at least another few weeks.
The Ruby GRAPEFRUIT crop, like most California crops, has been hit with a lot of heat this season. Growers will run out of inventory several weeks earlier than expected, so look for GRAPEFRUIT to see some volatility as we await the Rio crop to start in mid-October.
