MARKET UPDATE 08.07.26

Good afternoon,

MANGOES are thinning out, especially in smaller ranges like 8-10ct. Mexican fruit is trending larger as retail chains have taken up all the smaller fruit early in the deal. The remainder of the season availability will trend more toward 7's and 8's or even 5's and 6's!

This week will be the last for CHERRIES until Chilean fruit comes available later in the fall. Quality has been great late, as higher elevation growing regions have provided less volume but strong consistency this season. We will be very limited on CHERRIES next week so get orders in early!

MELON and GRAPE markets continue to soften as the California season develops. Specialty melons like, TUSCAN, GOLDEN HONEYDEW, and LEMON DROP melons are available and help create some additional buzz!

ZUCCHINI remains in great supply while YELLOW SQUASH is tight. North eastern growers are beginning to settle in, with more farms ready for harvest each week. If we can avoid HEAT or RAIN issues, we should see steady production out of this region on SQUASH, PEPPER, CUKES, CORN, and more!

New crop APPLES and PEARS are on the way! We have another few weeks of short supplies, most notably on ANJOU PEARS as Washington fruit will not start until late September. BARTLETT'S will be the only GREEN PEAR option until then. Early GALA apples have started but only earlier varieties like Wildfire galas. By October we will be completely cycled into new crop APPLES.

Summer heat continues out West, leaving better quality to be desired on leafy greens, strawberries, cauliflower, and broccoli. BROCCOLI CROWNS remain tight but leaf and flower markets have softened.
