MARKET UPDATE 07.25.25
Good afternoon,
August marks the beginning of NEW APPLE harvests! For the next few weeks, the 2024 crop will make up availability, but as we move through August and into late September, the 2025 crop will start for most varieties. GALAS will get going in the next few weeks but they will be the early varieties, like the WILDFIRE GALA. As controlled atmosphere rooms are emptied out on the east coast, demand has shifted over to the west, primarily on RED'S and SMALL GALA'S.
Larger ASPARAGUS sizes are limited out of Mexico and Peru. Good quantities of smaller asparagus is around but this may change over the next few weeks as pricing moves higher on larger asparagus.
Quality and pricing has improved on California veg items like LETTUCE, ROMAINE, BROCCOLI and CAULIFLOWER! We are through a rough spot and on to quieter more manageable markets thanks to more favorable weather patterns.
BRUSSELS SPROUTS, on the other hand, remain EXTREMELY scarce! Product out of Mexico is nearly non-existent as domestic supplies out of Salinas are just barely getting started. We are another few weeks away from Salinas production picking up, which should bring much needed relief.
SJV GRAPES are beginning to settle in and as a result we are seeing pricing and size improve weekly. Most Mexican fruit finished up last week so the more affordable small fruit got slightly more expensive as we moved our loadings out to California. This change should be a temporary adjustment. As we move into August, GRAPE markets should continue to improve in terms of affordability, availability, and sizing.
More as it happens,
