MARKET UPDATE 05.10.25
CHERRIES are just getting going this week out of Northern California. Supplies down South may be slightly more affordable, but with rain and temperature issues on the fruit down there, it is better left domestically. The FLAVOR of the fruit out of Northern Cal is said to be great this season. So, although we may be dealing with a very tight market to start, reports indicate that the fruit will eat wonderfully. CHERRY CLAMSHELLS are finally back and available for shipping this week!
Now that Florida WATERMELON is off and running, we are seeing a 2-tier market due to the remaining imported watermelon still kicking around from the Guatemalan deal. In our continued effort to bring you the best possible quality, we have been bringing in only fresh Florida watermelons the past couple of weeks. This new crop commands a higher price tag, but for export business it is certainly the way to go in favor of the remaining imported melons you may see in the market.
The offshore CANTALOUPE and HONEYDEW deal is beginning to wrap up as well with next week being the last big arrival of Guatemalan CANTALOUPE for the season. We.ve already begun to transition out West with HONEYDEW, and we anticipate good quality from our first Mexican arrivals hitting the cooler on Monday.
We are still seeing elevated prices on LIMES out of Mexico mainly due to a significant shortage of rain over the last few months. Growers are harvesting fruit early to take advantage of elevated market trends leading ultimately to peak yields on smaller sizes. Luckily for us here in South Florida; Peruvian and Colombian import availability is helping to fill the gap in the Mexican supply and stabilize the lime market in the southeastern U.S.
Have a great and Happy Mother's Day weekend everybody!
See you next time
