MARKET UPDATE 05.02.25

Good afternoon,

APPLE markets remain steady with a larger volume of SMALLER fruit out of Washington this season. GALA sizes 88 and larger are probably the most sought after fruit but also the most scarce this season. Foodservice sizing, around the 113 range, is where you will find the best availability and pricing.

BOSC PEARS are fully into IMPORTS and the range of sizes available is widening. 120CT fruit, being a very popular size, is tough to get your hands on as shippers try to sub into 110ct or 135ct. We may see some size adjustments over the next few weeks but quality on import bosc looks good.

ASPARAGUS markets are beginning to soften as US supplies get going. We are also seeing better volumes out of Peru and Mexico, however, we expect Mother's Day to hold markets slightly higher just another week longer.

CHERRIES have started in a small way but with rain damage, quality, and flavor issues, they are best left on the West Coast for this week. We have some pre-bookings in for very tight NORTHERN CALIFORNIA fruit to load next week. Volumes will be EXTREMELY limited through Memorial day but we expect production to improve after that. Best case scenario, we will start shipping light volumes of 9.5 ROW 16/1 lb clamshells the week of May 12th and pricing will be around the three-figure mark. YIKES! The very short supply means that the people who get cherries will be willing to pay the price, unfortunately.

There are GREAT supplies of YELLOW SQUASH and ZUCCHINI! Florida supplies are overlapping and the dry weather has helped quality shine!

NAVEL ORANGES have been on an incredible run this season but unfortunately, all good things come to an end at some point. But fear not, we should finish with an overlap in supply with the VALENCIA crop, starting in the next few weeks. Prices have moved up a few dollars per case with the end of season but as long as NAVEL storage volumes match up to demand for the next few weeks, a smooth and stable transition can be expected.

More as it happens,
