MARKET UPDATE APRIL 5-9, 2021
Good Afternoon,
Transition from ARIZONA to CALIFORNIA is in full swing this week and supplies seem to be lining up nicely. LETTUCE and LEAF have started in Huron, California with some overlap in Arizona. BROCCOLI and CAULIFLOWER availability is good in both Northern California and Arizona for now.
STRAWBERRIES are done for the season out of Florida. We are now facing a bottleneck of demand in Southern California with buyers from all over the south east moving their orders out west. We will see prices stay high for another week or two, and availability will be light.
Along with all the changes out west, we are also seeing signs of Florida shippers starting to finish on leafy greens. We expect another month on Florida LETTUCE and ROMAINE, but some growers are already facing supply gaps, a good sign we are nearing the end of the season.
LIME prices remain high and we expect that trend to continue through Cinco De Mayo. Supplies are already short and with Mexico celebrating Holy Week, the labor shortage is cutting supplies even further. Sizes 200ct and smaller have the best availability.
GRAPEFRUIT and TANGERINES are nearing the end of the season here in Florida. Next week will surely be the last for TANGERINES and we do not expect FLORIDA GRAPEFRUIT to be available much longer than that. As availability decreases, look for FLORIDA CITRUS prices to climb over the coming weeks.
HONEYDEW and CANTALOUPES remain in good supply. It seems that we have made it past any rain damage as offshore arrivals continue to flood the port with good quality fruit.
Keep an eye out for our weekly fresh featuring some great deals for shipping APRIL 5 - APRIL 9!
More as it happens,
