MARKET UPDATE 10.30.26

Good afternoon,

Availability continues to increase on APPLES. This year's crop is trending larger, so sizes 113 and smaller will see tighter markets just like last year's crop. GALA 175 and 198 are going to see even less production than this past year. The 175 and 198 gala fruit are a byproduct that is packed up as growers clear out bins and storage facilities to pack up more desirable sizes for retail. This season will be challenging on small fruit, but we are fortunate to have good partners pack up fruit exclusively for GPS.

STRAWBERRIES are nearly non-existent this week! Watsonville and Salinas fruit was rained out last week and shippers are calling the area done for the season. Southern California also saw tons of rain, leaving harvesting crews out of the field for 3-4 days in some cases. Markets are tight but we expect some fruit this week out of Oxnard, although we will need to keep a close eye on quality after all this rain.

CHERRIES have arrived! The first Chilean fruit is light red with a crunchy texture and great sizing. Clamshells are coming soon but bags are in stock and ready for business!

TOMATO supplies are limited across the country. With the northeastern US crop fully finished and southern growing areas yet to produce significant volume due to weather delays, both ROUND and ROMA tomato markets are elevated. We expect relief to come later on in November as Florida and Mexico supplies improve.

LETTUCE and ROMAINE are finally popping up out of YUMA Arizona! Reports indicate that as long as weather holds, we expect a strong supply of ROMAINE and ROMAINE HEARTS coming in the next few weeks! With southern growing areas starting, lettuce and leaf prices are finding more stable ground. BROCCOLI, CAULIFLOWER, and more items will begin to transition south later this month but for now, remain up north in Salinas.

More as it happens,

Parker Tannehill
