MARKET UPDATE 08.15.25

Good afternoon,

For the better part of the year, some of the best CARROTS come from CANADA. During the summer, supplies move down south to Mexico and supplies must deal with a much warmer climate. While the last few months of this season improved upon last year's crop, we still expect a step forward in quality once we move up north! Canadian CARROTS are now starting in a light way and we should see new crop by early September, possibly sooner!

CABBAGE is tightening up as it has been a dry few weeks up north. Irrigation systems can only do so much replacing the rain required from mother nature for a proper growth cycle. Michigan came on strong a few weeks ago helping to pull costs lower but now that domestic supplies have matched pace with Canadian product, market pricing is moving higher.

RED, YELLOW, and ORANGE BELL PEPPER are running scarce out of Mexico. Without any alternative options, the market is moving higher weekly. As volume develops out of Canada, we should see some relief in a few weeks.

LIME yields are also struggling from the weather down by our neighbors to the south. Heavy rains have prevented crop growth and delayed harvests. Sizing is running in the medium to small range with some alternative supply coming out of Colombia. We expect volatility in the LIME market into September.

This week is our final week shipping Washington CHERRIES this year. The season had some of the best volume of recent memory and steady weather in the pacific northwest allowed for good quality the entire way through!

Although it seems we just got there, we are nearing the end of the Salians season.Through the end of August and into September, we will have to face late season challenges that can prove particularly difficult when it comes to quality. Warmer weather can bring on insect damage, russeting, bruising, lighter weights, discoloration and more in lettuce and greens. The volume has been steady this season but reports point to the possibility of a troubling finish.
