MARKET UPDATE 05.30.25
Good afternoon,
Seedless GRAPE supplies continue to improve into this week as harvesting out of Mexico and California picks up speed. Earlier varieties will lean towards sizing in the 500-700 code range, indicative of a large seedless grape. XLG and JBO sizes should not be far behind but just like a fine wine, the fruit on the vines needs time to mature. GLOBE GRAPES will remain CHILEAN in origin for now as the seeded variety is the last to mature in a new season.
We are most of the way through this FRUIT transition! As GRAPES move closer to home, HONEYDEW and CANTALOUPE make the same journey. DOMESTIC and MEXICAN MELONS are off and running, however, summer sales have kept markets rather tight. We are on the other side of some late season quality issues, so tight markets might not be the worst price to pay at the moment. Just like grapes, this market should ease up over the next few weeks as production increases.
Domestic STONE FRUIT season is on as CHERRIES, PEACHES, NECTARINES, and APRICOTS are available. We remain a few weeks away from domestic PLUMS but Chilean plums should fill the gap.
CHERRIES are TIGHT and will remain that way until we are at least a few weeks into the Washington crop; relief would come late June at the earliest. California fruit is moving to BINGS after this week and then probably only has another 2-3 weeks left at most. The bing variety struggles to get size, so we may need to move orders over to 11 row to keep 100% coverage. WASHINGTON CHERRIES will get started as early as next week and ramp up from there. Projections are slightly up for this year, at 22 million cartons. We will know more in the coming weeks and keep getting you information straight from the growers!
More as it happens,
