MARKET UPDATE 05.22.26

Good afternoon,

California veg markets are beginning to soften. Supplies are strong on CELERY, BROCCOLI, CAULIFLOWER, and ICEBERG LETTUCE! Conditions have improved at the field level but there remains consistent disease pressure on ROMAINE and ICEBERG that will be a factor throughout the Salinas season.

The IMPORT MELON season is winding down. Offshore CANTALOUPE and HONEYDEW are available here in Miami but sizes are limited and the fruit is late season. The Mexican MELONS are a few weeks into the season and have arrived just in time. We have an overlap in supplies which should help keep markets in check through the transition west.

CHERRIES are finishing up out of California just before Washington fruit is available. Heavy rain during the growing season in California has caused some quality concerns and growers are raising pricing to sort through fruit with a more careful eye. We advise lighter cherry orders for the next few weeks until Washington fruit comes available in June.

Chilean GRAPES look to finish up around the end of this month. We are already seeing early Mexican and Southern California fruit, so we should avoid a gap this season. There will be an adjustment in sizing once the import fruit dries up or is not good enough to ship due to quality. The early Mexican and California GRAPES will be smaller, with bigger fruit coming on once we get into the San Joaquin Valley in late June/early July.

CARROT supplies have improved out of Mexico, helping ease market pricing. FREIGHT markets increased prices last week but we expect to see lower prices over the next few weeks as supplies improve.

More as it happens,
