MARKET UPDATE 01.08.26

Good afternoon,

Phew, we made it! Welcome to 2026 and everyone here at GPS genuinely hopes you had a wonderful Holiday Season and a Happy New Year. After several weeks of compressed schedules and holiday headaches, we can finally get back to some stability and focus on the year to come.

CELERY markets shot up in November and have held on to higher prices since. Thankfully, we are seeing supplies IMPROVE out of both major growing regions, Florida and California. Relief will come slowly but surely over the weeks ahead as long as weather trends stay positive. Market pricing will be lower for this week!

CHERRY prices will be dropping again this week! Supplies out of Chile and Argentina are available on both coasts and the additional supplies are helping ease markets. We also have imported, PEACHES, NECTARINES, and BLACK PLUMS available this week!

Smaller California ORANGES are TIGHT! Several weeks of on and off rain prevented crews from going into groves and harvesting. As the fruit waited, it sized up, leaving sizes 113 and smaller nearly non-existent. Peak sizing is around 56ct, an unusually large piece of fruit to be considered "peak" size. Markets will be elevated on smaller fruit but we will look to source imports and other alternatives to try and keep costs down.

GREEN ONIONS, LEEKS, CILANTRO, and PARSLEY all come out of Mexico this time of year. Recent rains have reduced yields on all of these commodities but GREEN ONIONS have had the most trouble. Pricing continues to climb this week and quality is only fair to mediocre.

LETTUCE, ROMAIE, and ROMAIE HEARTS are in good supply and continue to improve. Markets have been easing for a few weeks but we are finally starting to see quality get in line as well.

More as it happens,

Parker Tannehill
