MARKET UPDATE WEEK # 52

Good Afternoon,

We would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday season and a prosperous New Year!

Thank you to everyone who helped make this such an incredible year. We want to thank our customers for their continued support, helping us continue to grow and improve our business, adding new avenues along the way. Thank you to the entire GPS staff for making it happen every single week. We are incredibly thankful for all the support and extremely excited for what the new year will bring!

For now, it looks like 2019 is finishing off with a bang, and that bang is coming from RAIN and thunderstorms. Today, we are seeing tons of rain pour down on SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA and YUMA, ARIZONA growing regions. LETTUCE, ROMAINE, BROCCOLI, CAULIFLOWER, and ALL WEST COAST VEG supplies will be behind schedule this week. With labor shortages from the holiday, and delayed harvests from rain, we will see some market activity on all commodities this week.

FLORIDA continues to see more wet December weather. Unusual for this time of year, HEAVY RAIN has made consistent harvests difficult. With weakened supplies and stop and go harvests, there is some activity across the board on Florida veg. TOMATOES, SQUASH, FLORIDA LETTUCE AND ROMAINE, as well as all other FL commodities are going through a bit of a rough patch. The later portion of this week will determine how quickly things will be back up and running.

DOMESTIC GRAPES are basically finished for the season. Fruit out of PERU has been increasing in volume on the East Coast but we still are looking at a split market. The higher quality fruit will be a bit more pricey but will have much better shelf life. As import volumes increase, we will be back into CLAMSHELL fruit for next week.

IMPORT STONE FRUIT are available! We are just getting into some PLUMS, but all other varieties are readily available.

Our next market update will be the first of 2020! Please keep an eye out for our Weekly Fresh which includes fresh new items as well as specials on industry favorites. Have a Happy New Year Everyone. See you in 2020!

More as it happens,
Parker Tannehill
