MARKET UPDATE WEEK # 29

Good Afternoon,

Today marks 8 years GPS has been in business!

We would like to thank our loyal customer base that has kept us moving through all these years. We are lucky to have such a wonderful network of faculty, suppliers and clients, that we think of like family. As we are sure many of you have heard, we are moving into a new facility August 5th, that is over 60,000 square feet and is accurately constructed for our style of business. This accomplishment is a benchmark for the company, as well as a testament to the quality partnerships that we share with our staff, and of course, the best clients in the world!

Moving on to the perishables.

After weeks and weeks of elevated LETTUCE markets, we are finally seeing supplies pick up and prices come off. More shippers have promotional volumes and it seems that the harvest gap is behind us. QUALITY should also improve with the favorable weather and abundance of supply.

ASPARAGUS markets continue to be on the rise. Supplies in Mexico have drastically fallen off and we expect this trend to continue into next week. LARGER sizes like JUMBO and XLG will be the toughest to source, and the most expensive!

We have touched on PINEAPPLES the past few weeks, but it seems like the situation is not getting any better. Supplies out of Costa Rica are expected to remain tight for at least the next three to four weeks. They are entering the rainy season as well which is not helping the situation. 7 and 8 size fruit will have more availability so please try to keep orders in that range if possible.

POTATO and ONION markets are still firm. We still have another few weeks until supplies pick up on both commodities.

We are seeing the end of BOSC and ANJOU PEARS in Washington. BOSC are a bit more limited as even import supplies are short on larger sizes. California pears are starting, but pricing is usually very high early on. APPLES and PEARS are going to continue to decrease in availability as we approach new crop. MICHIGAN and WASHINGTON are expected to start in LATE AUGUST on early reds.

We only have about two more weeks on cherries. Supplies are starting to wrap up for the season. Some smaller shippers are completely out and the larger suppliers are working on shrinking inventories. Markets should continue to move up as supplies decrease.

AS OF AUGUST 5th, MAKE SURE TO HAVE ALL DRY AND CHILL VENDOR DELIVERIES SENT TO - 11760 MIRAMAR PARKWAY SUITE #100 - MIRAMAR, FL 33025

FROZEN DELIVERIES TO THAT ADDRESS START ON AUGUST 12th.

More as it happens,
Parker Tannehill
