MARKET UPDATE WEEK # 26

Good Afternoon,

BLUEBERRY supplies have finished up down here in the South Eastern United States. This week we have product from New Jersey, and we are hearing of British Columbia harvests popping up. The market tightened slightly but we should see some better deals next week as more supplies become available.

Overall, supplies of PINEAPPLE in Costa Rica are expected to be very TIGHT over the next 3-4 weeks. Acreage that is set to be cut over the next few weeks is down dramatically from weeks prior. Along with decreased harvests, we are also seeing internal damage. As growers lose time and product sorting through lots, the situation worsens. Quality, import/export taxation, local drivers on strike, and short supply all add up to a VERY TIGHT MARKET. Expect PINEAPPLES to be tight for at least another 3-4 weeks.

FINALLY, CELERY SUPPLIES ARE BACK! This market has fallen way down with supplies in Southern and Northern California finally caught up with demand. We are also on the cusp of supply out of Michigan and Canada so there is a chance things come off a bit more from here. This market has been near $40 since last DECEMBER, so it is great to finally see some healthy supplies!

The warmer weather is still causing some defects in LETTUCE and ROMAINE. Markets are still HIGH, and it looks like that will continue into next week. We received the first shot of CANADIAN product this week and it looks GREAT!

ONION markets keep on climbing! YELLOW and WHITE ONIONS are in drastically short supply out of New Mexico and other growing regions. We are seeing some new crop pop up in the North West but with added freight cost that doesn't lighten the load much for us down here in Miami. After the holiday tomorrow, we should start to see a slight decrease in demand. Hopefully we have reached the peak on pricing, look for this market to be high for another week or two.

We are almost at the year round point for APPLES. Washington harvests will start up on various varieties in the month of August. GOLDEN DELICIOUS, HONEYS, GALAS, and GRANNYS have really become scarce as we approach the end of the deal. Only another month or two and we will be back into NEW CROP APPLES. First to harvest will be Puala Reds, and Ginger Golds, then followed by Galas, Golden Delicious, and Red Delicious in September.

STONE FRUIT and CHERRIES are having a solid year thus far! Next week we will have STONE FRUIT in PUNNETS along with more CLAMSHELL RED and WHITE CHERRIES.

Happy Fourth of July,
Parker Tannehill
