MARKET UPDATE NOVEMBER 22, 2023
Good afternoon,
We would like to wish all of our partners a Happy Thanksgiving! We are incredibly grateful for the support and trust we receive from you day in and day out. May your Thanksgiving and all the days ahead be filled with happiness and prosperity. Thank you for your continued partnership with us.
The Chilean STONE FRUIT season is getting started up! CHERRIES, PEACHES, and NECTARINES are arriving by air. Markets will start out hot due to light availability and air freight costs but we should see things come off as ocean freight fruit comes available in a few weeks.
YUMA production has started to take off! We have moved through most of the early harvest setbacks and are on to better quality and fresh seasonal crops. BROCCOLI, CAULIFLOWER, LETTUCE, ROMAINE, and more are all coming fresh out of Arizona.
Valencia ORANGES are finished for the season and we are now into new crop NAVEL ORANGES out of California. Production is off to a slow start but sizing is working slightly more in a favor with 113 sizes being more prevalent in the early NAVELS. FLORIDA CITRUS is starting up but current gas time on the fruit is 48-60 hours which will affect shelf life and brix levels.
Last week FLORIDA and a portion of the southeast was hit by a major storm system. Winds were nearly tropical storm strength and rain was measured at over 4 inches in some locations. The weather seriously setback Florida LETTUCE and LEAF, and caused some issues in early TOMATO and STRAWBERRY crops.
CABBAGE is finishing up in Canada this week and domestic crops aren.t quite ready to take on the burden! Georgia had an unusually dry season and volume produced was much lower than anticipated. North Carolina crops have taken the bulk of the orders as northeastern supplies also wrapped up earlier than usual. Florida CABBAGE should get going in early December and help ease market pricing.
More as it happens,
Parker Tannehill
