MARKET UPDATE 04.17.25

Good afternoon,

Domestic BOSC PEARS are done for the season. The yield is down 60% from expected this year leaving us with a very early finish. IMPORT BOSC are available but just beginning to arrive. Sizing is inconsistent, so if you are looking for BOSC PEARS, you may have to move up or down a size or two.

Volume is up on ROUND TOMATOES, especially on 5x5 and 5x6 sizes. Central Florida fruit is crown pick right now, leading to the abundance of larger fruit and better market pricing. We should see this trend on other eastern veggies like SQUASH and BELL PEPPER over the next few weeks as long as weather permits.

ASPARAGUS markets have hit the ceiling as many retailers around the globe hop on Easter promotions. The increase in demand also caused an increase in air freight costs on ASPARAGUS out of PERU. We typically see this market take a dive after the holiday but with 10% TARIFFS on products out of PERU, we expect pricing to hang on for slightly longer than normal. The growers and importers we work with are looking to circumvent tariffs by sticking it out with MX, then CAN and US production as long as they can. Realistically speaking, it will be difficult if not impossible to see adverse effects from TARIFFS on ASPARAGUS prices.

LEMON packouts are running large in California causing a shortage on fruit 140ct and smaller. Smaller lemons are going to be tight for at least a few weeks.

Most growers out west have completed their TRANSITION from Arizona to California. Overall, supplies are strong in Salinas so we should see stability in these markets continue for at least another few weeks. CAULIFLOWER, LETTUCE, and BROCCOLI, have seen slight increases this week but nothing too out of the ordinary.

BRUSSELS sprouts are still coming out of Mexico and will move up north later on in the season. Hot weather and labor shortages due to holy week have sent sprout prices higher for this week.

Happy Easter Everyone!
