MARKET UPDATE 03.01.26
Good afternoon,
Domestic TOMATO supplies remain tight due to damage from the freeze in Florida. The unfortunate situation is being compounded by Mexican tomato production being well below seasonal levels. Inclimate weather and recent cartel activity in the region are keeping arrivals of MX tomatoes low into the states.
IMPORT GRAPES are in peak season! Steady volume out of both Chile and Peru continues to put downward pressure on the market. We should see healthy volume and availability for the next several weeks.
GREEN ONIONS remain extremely scarce due to some of the same issues previously mentioned in Mexico.
BROCCOLI and CAULIFLOWER markets have loosened up this week. The gradual improvement is mostly thanks to several growers making their way past supply gaps and finally getting into new fields.
CELERY supplies have started to recover out of FL and AZ. This market is a little slower to adjust but should continue to ease up over the next few weeks.
LETTUCE, SPINACH, ROMAINE, and leafy greens are seeing the same improvements! Conditions in Arizona have mostly stabilized and we are thankful to report that many growers are on the other side of some significant supply gaps. Although we expect steady markets for the next several weeks, it is important to note that many shippers remain ahead of their harvest schedules on west coast veg. This means a good possibility of additional supply gaps as we approach transition at the end of this month.
More as it happens,
